How we help

How Our Bed Bug Inspections Work

What An Inspection Tells You

As a homeowner or a business owner, few things are more unsettling than being bitten at night and not knowing by what. That is usually the call we get. Bed bugs will not eat through your walls the way termites do, but the risks they bring are physical and psychological both, and not knowing whether you have them is its own kind of misery. Given we have been fighting bed bugs across Michigan for years, we want to run through how an inspection works and what it will tell you. Bed bugs are small, the early signs of them are smaller still, and it is easy to mistake one pest with another. We go through the home slowly, the beds and the furniture and the baseboards, and our tools pick up activity in places the eye cannot reach. By the time we are done, you will know whether you have bed bugs at all, how far along the problem has gotten, and what it will take to be rid of it.

Our approach

Our Bed Bug Removal Process

01

The Inspection

Our technician goes through each room slowly, paying the most attention to the places bed bugs actually hide, the mattresses, the furniture, the cracks along the walls. It is not a quick walk-through. Everything that follows depends on knowing where the bugs are sitting, so this part is done carefully or the rest is not worth doing.

02

The Perimeter Spray

Next a three-part spray goes down around the interior perimeter of the home, along the walls and the baseboards and the furniture, working into the cracks and the harboring spots where bed bugs sit. Each part of the spray has a job of its own. One kills the live bugs, one interrupts the life cycle, and one stays behind for a while as residual protection, so that a new batch does not settle back in where the old one was.

03

The Heat

Then the Heat Assault system brings the inside of the home up to somewhere around 140°F and holds it there for five to seven hours, depending on the size of the house and how well it keeps its heat. Once the interior passes 122°F, bed bugs at every stage of life are dead within about five minutes, the eggs included, and the eggs are the part everything else misses. The heat works into walls, furniture, and belongings, the places sprays and vacuums never reach, and that is the reason the whole job is finished in a single day.

Why homeowners choose BBS.

Fast Service

We take same-day calls when the schedule allows, for homes and businesses both, because bed bugs are not a problem anyone wants to sit with.

Home-Friendly Treatment

Heat is easier on a home than round after round of chemicals, and it is safe for the house itself.

Minimize Disruption

Most treatments are done in a single day, so you are out of the house for hours rather than days.

Frequently Asked Bed Bug Questions

It can be tough to know if you have bed bugs or another pest, like ticks or termites. Are you noticing red bite marks on your body, an awful sickly-sweet smell in the air, and/or eggshells of unknown origin? Then you might have bed bugs. Given that one in five Americans will deal with bed bugs at one stage in their life, you are not alone in having this problem.

If you want to confirm you have bed bugs, call the BBS today for a bespoke appraisal of your property.

To identify bed bugs from other species, look out for small, oval-shaped creatures around the size of a singular apple seed. They are wingless and have flat bodies, which make them easy to tell apart from other pests. Usually a reddish-brown color (though sometimes translucent during early stages of life or before feeding), bed bugs tend to be easy to separate from other common pests in the USA.

Bed bug bites can be quite hard to tell apart from other typical bites left by other pests. Some of us break out in major reactions, while for others, it can simply look a little red and inflamed. Generally, bed bug bite marks are concentrated in small areas, usually in a zig-zag or straight-line pattern, and tend to be quite itchy and easily irritated.

Bed bugs can move around quickly, covering around 4 feet of space per minute, but they also tend to breed extremely quickly. They can spread their numbers given that bed bugs produce as many as seven eggs per day, each of which hatches in around ten days, and they mature into adults within just six weeks.

You can try, but they breed at such a stellar rate and hide in so many places you cannot reach that self-removal is almost impossible beyond a certain stage. For the best results and proven success in eradicating bed bugs for 60+ days, contact us for advice.

I want to give this company ten plus stars for their honesty and integrity. I was flipping out yesterday because a different company, based on some photos, said we had bed bugs and wanted to come out the next day,and charge $3200.00. That didn't feel right so I called Bed Bug Specialist and spoke to the kindest man named Mike. He spent time looking at our pictures and said that those pictures do not resemble bed bugs. The smoking gun for the other guy was this red/orange piece that looked so odd. That other guy said it's for sure the bed bug, Mike said no and then sent me literature that showed me both the mail and female stages from egg to adult. He turned out to be 100% correct because that was some auburn hair dye. Mike could have agreed and taken our money and we would not have been one to argue. But, he didn't do that. He talked to me a few more times during dinner time. As well, he sent me a text thanking me. His honesty and integrity are character traits that you want when you need his service. Don't worry about the other company, because this company is who you should be calling... Mike at Bed Bug Specialist. Thanks again Mike!!
